Two-Day NYC Photography Workshop

Call 212.633.9595 for dates.

The human form in motion is one of the most elusive yet intriguing of photographic subjects. Capturing graceful forms of individuals in flight by slicing a moment into a fraction of a second, Lois’ camera reveals what the human eye cannot see.

In this two-day intensive workshop, Lois will explain how she achieves her signature, crystal-sharp images and creates sculptural lighting for bodies in motion. The participants will not only practice her technique but will expand their ability to “see” the elusive moment of capture. Lois encourages the photographers to go beyond recording the dance through imagining and exploring the different emotions and narratives evoked by the human form in flight.

After demonstrating her process, the participants will photograph professional dancers at her studio in New York City using Broncolor strobes which stop action at 1/2000 of a second. Lois encourages the photographers to use her Hasselblad camera and the Leaf Valeo 22-megapixel digital back. The images will appear on the monitor, providing instant feedback and easy communication with the dancers. You can bring your own camera and film if you prefer.

The group is limited to 6-8 people and is customized to all levels of photographic experience, as the process is surprisingly easy to learn. The cost for the two days is $1150 and includes the use of the studio, four models per day, her assistants, lunches and use of all of Lois’ lighting and camera equipment.

The photographers will keep the images they shoot, but the rights to use them will limited to personal portfolio, exhibits and web use.

We look forward to the magic that always happens when a committed group of people works and plays together. If you are interested in learning more about this valuable, hands-on learning experience, please call Jack at (212) 633-9595 or write to workshop@loisgreenfield.com

Norwegian Fjordland Photography Workshop

Lois Greenfield Norway Workshop

Summer 2010

Check out Lois Greenfield Norway Workshop on Norway TV (link).

The human form in motion is one of the most elusive yet intriguing of photographic subjects. Capturing graceful forms of individuals in flight by slicing a moment into a fraction of a second, Lois’ camera reveals what the human eye cannot see.

We are very honored to have been offered an opportunity by Norwegian Sparebanken Vest to hold two of Lois’ dance photography workshops, in the scenic Fjordland in Norway. They are subsidizing the workshops to make the costs very affordable.

The fee, which includes all hotel accommodations, food, studio, models and equipment, is as follows:

  • $1,580 for the 2-day/3-night workshop
  • $2,240 for the 3-day/4-night workshop

In these intensive workshops, Lois will explain how she achieves her signature, crystal-sharp images and creates sculptural lighting for bodies in motion. The participants will not only practice her technique, but will expand their ability to “see” the elusive moment of capture. The photographers are encouraged to go beyond photographing the dance, exploring the different emotions and narratives evoked by the human form in flight, and to discover their own unique approach to the subject.

These workshops will be a unique opportunity to work with the very talented ballet dancers from the Norwegian Opera Ballet (link). We can photograph them in their actual costumes and makeup as well as in other dancewear and outfits. The dancers are looking forward to being subjects for our cameras and creating surprising and unique images with us.

The studio sessions will be equipped with electronic strobes, Hasselblad H3D cameras will be available as well, and the images will appear on the monitor, providing instant feedback and easy communication with the dancers. You are also welcome to shoot with your own camera system and personal laptop.

The 3-day workshop includes a full day at the Nigardsbreen Glacier (link), Europe’s biggest glacier.

Here we will learn to combine strobes with ambient light to join dance and nature photography. Our monitors will allow us to review our images on the spot. Participants for this 3-day workshop must please bring their own camera.

All participants will enjoy staying at the wonderful Kviknes Hotel (link) in Balestrand.
Accommodations and meals are all included in the fees. The hotel will also extend a special rate ($220 per night, which includes a double room and meals) should you wish to stay longer.

The photographers will keep the images they shoot, but the rights to use them will limited to personal portfolio, exhibits and web use.
